About

CHILD AND FAMILY THERAPIST · CHILD ADVOCATE · TEACHER TRAINER
SCHOOL ADVISOR · PARENT EDUCATOR

In practice as a Child and Family Therapist since 1992, I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology, a Masters in Clinical Social Work and an LCSW-C in Child and Family Therapy. My post graduate training was in schools as well as working with traumatized children aged 2-8. My previous experience as an elementary school teacher helped me understand how easily children can be misunderstood, mislabeled and miss-educated by the adults in their lives. This misunderstanding and the assumptions about the child which follow, only serve to exacerbate negative behavior.

Trained in working with Learning Disabilities and differences I served as a Teacher Trainer and School Advisor for 9 years in the Baltimore City School System, private schools, and P’TACH of Baltimore where I also did family therapy besides having a private practice.

With new neurological findings in the last decade, I have been receiving ongoing training in that field.

Since making Aliyah in 2004, I have been in practice in Child & Family therapy as well as giving seminars to parents and teachers in Israel. My therapeutic sessions as well as the seminars are conducted in English, Hebrew or Yiddish.

Specialties include:
Learning Disabilities · ADHD · Autism Spectrum Disorder – high functioning children · Anxiety
Sensory regulation and its relationship to behavior

Services

These have two purposes. First, I want to familiarize the teacher and/or parents with the specific issues, developmental stage, cognitive nuances and situational realities which can be a source of difficulty for specific children. Then, I present the various conditions and diagnoses which can account for child’s inappropriate behavior or learning difficulty. A situation which can often lead the child to be mislabeled or misunderstood. Second, we learn new ways of understanding and approaching these children both at home and in school. Participants learn what is a “trap” for the children and what allows the child to perform at his/her best. Parents and teachers are encouraged to bring specific examples for discussion. Specific tools are introduced and demonstrated.
Workshops run from 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on the behaviors and difficulties under discussion as well as the number of participants. I also am willing to do a two-part workshop.
